October 2&3, 2004MBYC 505 Invitational
Pictures first Let's get down to brass tacks here. First, here are some on-water photos , courtesy of Helen Burdett, and here are the on-land photos (Trophy Presentation shown first, of course), courtesy of Aaron Ross and Bill Jenkins.
Words second Last weekend's San Diego Fleet 3 505 2004 Invitational was a good success. The wind was a bit light, but the racing was fun nonetheless. 11 boats competed. Saturday was spent out on the ocean, but Sunday the fleet opted to stay inside and compete on Mission Bay. Congratulations to Dan Merino and Bill Jenkins, the undefeated victors of the event, and to Harry Dunning and Rick Harris who kept them honest by staying on their heels in every race. The boyz of White Trash, Mike Roberts and Tony Beale, clinched the Classic Fleet division victory, which proved quite competitive this year, with Gary Lee of Team Taz close behind. And thanks to our visiting competitors for coming down: Rob Waterman and Pierre Jeangirard from Alamitos Bay Yacht Club, and former American Section President Aaron Ross who sailed with Bruce Tilley. It was great to have some additional talent on the water to mix things up. The Saturday BBQ and keguerator filled with Yellowtail Pale Ale were a big hit, and we gobbled up the leftovers Sunday after the racing. Thanks to John and Trish Billings for putting that together. A finally a huge thanks to our steadfast PRO, Stan Betts, for yet another outstanding performance. And again to the Thistle fleet for a great job on RC. As far as I could tell, all the races were executed flawlessly. The race results are attached. Hope to see you all next year. Mark Kurzava Captain - Fleet 3 P.S. For the record, Geoff Nelson did not break or destroy anything!
